As of writing this, 2021 - Housing prices are, somehow, on the rise. Interest rates are still low, enabling people to buy homes. To wait for another crash/boom to buy or sell has it's risks. You probably already know if you've ever tried stocks, that it's very difficult to "time" the market.

Prices did flatten during the lockdown, but have since been on the rebound. When excitement returned prior to Delta, prices were back on the rise. Of course, every zip code (and even hyper local locations within zip codes) were different. Price was (and is) also very specific to the house.

It isn't too surprising either, with stocks on the rise, and other assets such as cryptocurrency, housing is following similar trends. What should I look for in an agent?

You should look for an agent who has done deals, you like (you'll have to deal with this person A LOT), is trustworthy, communicates OFTEN, gives you full attention (I personally don't like being thrown around on a large team, and I assume you don't either), and has knowledge of real estate.
